Catch the last call to wake up and soak in a gorgeous sunrise at Mount Batuk right in the heart of Danum Valley. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, perhaps spotting one last monkey from the deck or taking a deep breath of the deliciously fresh jungle breeze. Take one last stroll around the area to say goodbye to the forest before heading back to Lahad Datu, camera packed with memories and heart full of joy, the thrill of hearing a wild trumpet in the distance, and the tranquilly of drifting off to the soft sounds of the jungle. Heading back to Lahad Datu at noon to end the expedition.
I was very fortunate to witness Orangutan fairly up close in the wild at Danum Valley, something I’ll never forget. Top 5 experiences of my life.
From Borneo Rainforest Lodge there are many walks to take, either on boardwalks or trekking in the forest, either option is worthwhile.
Pack leech socks or either pull long socks up your legs as there are leeches.
I walked up to Coffin Cliff and View Point platform that was a hot and steep walk which takes approx 1.5 hour (moderate fitness) each way. Was also lucky to see red leaf monkey during this trek, which are very cute. And stopped by Jacuzzi pool for a cool off on the way back down.
The long canopy walk (longest in Sabah) being three made of timber and three of steel, is great especially in the morning light and bird life.
Highly recommend Danum Valley for nature and wildlife lovers.
When you visit a place like that you’re forever stuck with the feeling of nostalgia and gratitude and you’ll want to come back. This is a remote, dense and true rainforest, one of the oldest on earth. During your stay, you won’t have a lot of amenities, accommodations are very basic and they cut out electricity from 11pm to 7pm. But that helps to make the best out of your experience and to grasp every bit of it. Mind you there’s a lot of leeches. Humidity is no joke either so be prepared with a lot of water especially during the hikes. What can I say? This place is magical, waking up at 6am to the view of the steamy foggy rainforest trees and hearing all the jungle noises, stepping outside our cabin to try and spot all the animals.. will forever be one of the best memories.
Thank you Danum Valley.
I will write the most important thing! Contacts where you can contact the center for reservations on WhatsApp +60 12-348 8437 (they don’t always answer right away, but they do... take into account the time difference and weekends), sometimes you receive an auto message to fill out an application, you need to fill it out or continue writing so that the manager can see Your messages.
Reservation required! If you arrive at the center office in the city of Lahad Datu without a reservation, you will not get into the valley!
Just amazing to be in untouched rainforest i felt very privileged. The lodge was superb, guides were all really friendly and staff very welcoming.
We did the coffin trail which in my opinion was a step walk getting steeper the higher we got and they have put ropes to help you when your near the top, well worth it for the view you get at the platform. I’m not going to lie my fitness isn’t great but I managed to do it so don’t be put off you can do it.
Excellent tours, good facilities and also good food. We learned a lot about the forrest, we can highly reccomend!
We had a fantastic time in Danum Valley. It's a totally different experience to anything else we saw in Borneo and definitely worth doing. The rain forest is so old and is so beautiful.
We did our trip with Sabah Holidays and everything was fantastic - from making the booking and prior communication, through to being on the trip. Our guide Afif was absolutely brilliant. He was really knowledgable, friendly and incredible at spotting wildlife.
The hostel is basic but clean and comfortable. The food was varied and incredibly tasty throughout our stay.
Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves being outdoors with nature.
This is an incredible and lush rain forest with so much wildlife. It is untouched natural beauty that makes you feel like an explorer in the middle of no where. We saw lots of wildlife but make sure you bring LEECH SOCKS! These are a MUST.
We took the shuttle from Lahad Datu on Monday and stayed until the return shuttle on Friday. They also have one on Wednesdays. We stayed in the cabins/hostel and the accommodations were very comfortable. The meals at the dining hall were also delicious. Make sure to bring snack/drinks bc the store on site seems to have inconsistent hours.
The rangers may not always be available to guide a trek for you but you are able to do some of the trails alone.
