This 3-day, 2-night invite is your ticket to dive into a wild wonderland! Imagine the vibe of hidden lost world and the excitement of discovering a place that’s still a bit of a mystery to most. This place is one of the last wild spots on the planet, pretty much a secret until 1988 when a scientific team finally let everyone in on this hidden treasure. Who would’ve thought that more than half of the basin is still hiding. It could totally be the hidden spot of some long lost species!

In the Maliau Basin, you’ll find trees that are super tall, casting shade like it’s their job, wildlife zipping around like they’re playing tag, massive carnivorous pitcher plants that are pretty impressive, and this magical moss that makes it feel like you’ve walked into a fairy tale. This tour is your golden ticket to a spot that's pretty much a secret, with just a few visitors allowed each year!

As you head out of the cities, the scenery shifts from a mix of small towns to a dense forest. The last bit to Maliau Basin is a bit of a rough ride on gravel roads, just right for those reliable 4WDs that can handle the adventurous side of nature! When you get to the Shell Maliau Basin Reception and Information Building (SMRIB), you'll be welcomed and get a quick rundown on the rules and importance of the conservation area. keep going for about an hour to the Maliau Basin Study Centre (MBSC), which is the main spot for research and where you can stay. Visit through the Nature Gallery and dive into the amazing variety of Borneo's Enchanted Lost World, plus enjoy a meal in the grand hall. After dinner at night, jump into 4WD and take off on the awesome Maliau Safari Night, cruising through the cool shadows of the hidden world and maybe spotting some amazing nighttime animals, if the weather's good. Alternatively if the night drive cannot be done because of some rainy weather, then start your day at 5 am with the Maliau Basin Sunrise Drive with stroll on over to Sungai Gajah and catch the sunrise at the Maliau Basin Observation Tower with a climb up to 61 feet up! Frequently asked questions

Where is the stay located?

Maliau Basin, also referred to as the "Borneo Lost World," is tucked away in the southern central part of Borneo, fairly remote from any civilisation and nestled in the basins.

How big is the tour size?

The usual tour size is between 2 to 8 travellers per guide, but in the low season, it could be just you and the guide at no extra charge.

Will the tour itinerary change due to weather or management's discretion?

That's how it is, but it doesn't happen often. the management of Meliau Basin might change the route if it's deemed necessary, especially if the weather isn't looking promising or risk of wild animals exposure.

Are the pick-up time flexible?

For sure, it is. Since our experience is in the late evening and it takes about half a day to get to Maliau Basin, we recommend heading out early, around 9 to 11 am. But, no stress if your flight gets delayed on check-in day!  Our team can work with that at no extra charge.

Does the tour come with pickup and drop-off?

Sure thing, it's all exclusively set for pick up either in Tawau city, Tawau airport, or Semporna Town, travellers can choose any of those places for pickup and drop-off, and it won’t cost you a thing!

Can you arrange for a vegan or vegetarian option?

Yep, it's totally free and there are no extra charges. Just give us quickly reminder up when you make your reservation or the day before you check in, so our staff can get everything ready for you.
