Day 1 : Into the Jungle’ Riverine Wilderness

You will be picked up in the middle of the day from Sandakan or Sepilok and taken on a 2.5-hour drive through rural towns and emerald oil palm fields, leaving behind the hustle and bustle of city life. The first wildlife meeting took place at a lodge on stilts that was built over a river. You will be able to get to your dorm or deluxe room after a safety instruction. At 4:00 PM, the jungle's "golden hour" starts. Get on a covered boat with an electric motor that hums softly so you don't scare animals. Expert guides lead the first wildlife tour on a two-hour boat ride along the Kinabatangan River. The riverbanks are bustling with activity as the sun sets. Long-tailed macaques and proboscis monkeys are happily foraging along the shores, while saltwater crocodiles are lounging in the muddy water. If you're lucky, you could spot orangutans in the trees or even catch a glimpse of the elusive Borneo pygmy elephant, which many tourists find to be a real highlight! Bird enthusiasts will have a great time spotting hornbills, kingfishers, and eagles. Return back at the resort and enjoy the dinner, drift asleep to the rhythmic chorus of frogs and cicadas, your AC murmuring against the humid night together with the sound of the wild forest. A hearty dinner featuring local and international cuisine is served at the lodge’s restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxed, with the symphony of the jungle providing a natural soundtrack. Share stories with fellow travelers while enjoying free-flowing coffee and tea before head to bed.

Day 2 : Dawn Safaris and Farewell to the Jungle

Rise and shine before the sun to enjoy the delightful sounds of gibbons and hornbills on a lovely sunrise river cruise. The lovely morning air and gentle light make it a perfect time for watching wildlife: primates are lively, birds are soaring, and the misty river scenery brings a feeling of peacefulness from long ago. This cruise often offers delightful sightings which you might miss in the afternoon, like playful otters or early-rising reptiles. Head back to the lodge for a delicious breakfast buffet, and then we'll take care of the check-out procedures. Take this opportunity to relax, pack up, and maybe savor one last moment on your balcony with a lovely view of the river. The journey back to Sandakan is starting, with drop-offs at airports, hotels, or the Sepilok areas. It's a great idea to book flights that leave after 2:00 PM, as this helps you avoid any rushed transfers!

we saw many animals although the guide said that the elephants are far away so advertising that you might see them is a bit dishonest. I was disappointed to hear that from the guide but otherwise a great experience.

Highly recommended for wildlife enthusiasts! Thanks to our guides' incredible spotting skills, we saw lots of animals. Stay an extra night to increase your chances of seeing elephants! The optional cave is fascinating but not for the faint of heart - be prepared for cockroaches and the strong smell of guano. However, our guide explained everything brilliantly. Our homestay was just a minute from the boat landing, featuring A/C, hot water, and delicious home-cooked meals. It was simple, clean, and comfortable, with only a few expected bugs in the bathroom. This is the jungle! The host family was incredibly welcoming. The boat trips were fantastic with life vests provided and well-maintained boats. Organization was mostly perfect and on time, though we'd have liked more details about the accommodation beforehand. While quite expensive for one night, we hope the money benefits the local community and helps protect this gem of a nature reserve.

Everything organizational was great! The only concern was that the guide talked up the experience! He wanted to be good! And said yourself that you approach the animals quietly and carefully! But he talked and explained and did not be quiet for a second to let the experience live its own life! He seemed to practice English! Then I think the whole organization did their utmost to make sure everything is okay!

There is a chance that bad weather, rivers, traffic, or changes in how the company runs could cause the tour's start time to be pushed back. If a tour has to be cancelled due to bad weathers, etc, we will try to arrange the alternative time during the tour. In addition, all wildlife environments are unpredictable and has a freedom to roams, it is impossible to guarantee that will see any specific wildlife. We can arrange pick-up and drop-off at Wisma Khoo, Sandakan Airport, or any hotel in the Sepilok area at noon, around 11:45 a.m. The usual check-out time is around 8 a.m., and you should be back in town around noon, depending on traffic and weather.

Unfortunately, the tour is a package deal, so it's not really possible to refund or change that. It might be best to just join in.

What happens if I miss the pick-up on the check-in date?

It's super important to show up on time since it's a shared tour and we only arrange free transfers once. So, customers should definitely plan ahead since all the meeting point details are provided. If you're checking in late, you'll need to sort out your own ride or grab a private taxi to the place since it's not included in the package.

Yep, it's totally free and there are no extra charges. Just give us quickly reminder up when you make your reservation or the day before you check in, so our staff can get everything ready for you.
